Inaugural PNG Media Summit only 5 days away
THE first ever Papua New Guinea Media Summit will lead Media Council of PNG activities to commemorate World Press Freedom Day on Saturday, May 3rd.
The summit is set to be staged at the Hilton Hotel and will bring together thought leaders, media professionals, policy makers, academics and digital content creators under the theme: ‘AI, Ethics and Standards in PNG’s Media Future’.
Media professionals, students, development partners, public servants, church leaders, and digital creators are all encouraged to participate in this groundbreaking event.
UN Resident Coordinator to open first Summit
Resident Coordinator to the United Nations in Papua New Guinea, Richard Howard, will be the Keynote Speaker who will officially open the Summit.
Resident Coordinator Howard’s first engagement with the Media Council of PNG was in 2023 when he was invited and spoke to the media at a Breakfast Event to commemorate World Press Freedom Day then.
Mr. Howard then spoke of the need for the media to be united in performing its important role to support free speech, and to strengthen democracy in Papua New Guinea.
Corporates show support
The Papua New Guinea Chamber of Resources & Energy (PNGCORE) is leading support for the Summit as Gold Sponsor with K50,000, Santos is Silver Sponsor with K40,000, Kumul Petroleum Holdings Ltd is Bronze Sponsor with K20,000.
The Hilton Hotel, Port Moresby and Media Development Initiative (MDI) is providing Bronze Valued Support.
The Hilton will be hosting the Summit with an Early Bird Mixer event starting from 7am on Saturday, May 3rd, before the official programme gets under way at 7.30am.
Women In Media taking the lead
Women In Media PNG (WIM PNG) are leading the organisation of the PNG Media Summit.
Proudly announcing its two-year anniversary on April 26th, WIM PNG, currently a Chapter of the Media Council of PNG, says it has been two years of dedicated efforts to support, connect and empower women working across all sectors of the media industry in Papua New Guinea.
WIM PNG is thankful for the confidence shown by the MCPNG to allow it to organise the inaugural PNG Media Summit, an event which will be a mainstay on the Council’s annual calendar of events.
