Membership of the Media Council of Papua New Guinea (MCPNG) brings both professional benefits and obligations.
An accredited member of the MCPNG is bound to uphold its ethical principles and standards of professional conduct; so too is any visiting journalist/media practitioner seeking accreditation in PNG.
Industry standards and the system of media self-regulation in PNG are founded on two pillars: the Code of Ethics and Professional Practice (2024) and oversight by an eight-member Independent Complaints Tribunal.
To satisfy MCPNG membership requirements and the code of practice, journalists and associated media workers must demonstrate their professional credentials and status.
The membership list of the MCPNG, with supplementary information, provides the basis of a register of accredited Papua New Guinean and foreign journalists and media practitioners, as well as media enterprises operating in this country.
Associate Membership of the MCPNG does not entitle an organisation or individual to apply for media accreditation unless specified and approved by the Management Council (for example, a foreign media enterprise or individual).
